Like most cities, Curitiba is a patchwork of neighborhoods with their own commercial centers, in addition to the city center. Get to know the shops in your area first - you are likely to find quite a lot of what you need in the small local shops, without having to make the trip into the center. Shops are generally open Monday to Friday from 9 till 6 or 7 pm, and Saturdays until noon or 1pm. The Sunday newspapers (Gazeta do Povo and Estado do Paraná) are very helpful for comparison shopping for things like electrical appliances.
